Road Safety Audits
Road safety audits are quickly becoming a mandatory requirement within the road and traffic engineering related industry. Road safety audits take the principles of the safe systems approach and apply them proactively. The outcome of a road safety audit is a Road Safety Audit Report that identifies any road safety deficiencies.
A road safety audit assesses a road’s safety performance and crash potential at various stages of a road/project’s life cycle. A road safety audit is defined by Austroads as “…a formal examination of a future road or traffic project or an existing road, in which an independent, qualified team reports on the project’s crash potential and safety performance…”
Road safety audits can be undertaken for at a number stages including:

Preliminary (Concept) Stage
Detailed Design Stage
Pre-opening / Post Construction
Roadwork Traffic Scheme
Land Use Development
Specific Road User Group
Existing Road
A road safety audit has the greatest potential for improving safety and is most cost-effective when it is applied to a road or traffic design before the project is built. It can be conducted on any design proposal that involves changes to the ways road users will interact, either with each other or with their physical environment. It is a formal process using a defined procedure. To be effective it must be conducted by people who are independent and who have appropriate experience and training

All of our Road Safety Auditors are accredited and practicing professionals with experience and capabilities in road design, traffic engineering, traffic/transport management, road construction techniques, road safety engineering, road user behaviour and other related disciplines. This allows us to commit to being completely separate from the design process for the purposes of independent auditing.
